Denyce Graves Headlines BSO New Year's Concerts

As 2011 comes to an end, Ankara music lovers are in for a real treat. The acclaimed American mezzo soprano Denyce Graves will join the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra under resident conductor Işın Metin for a special New Year's concert program December 29 and 30.

The program will be on the lighter side, consisting of selections written for the musical theater and other popular works by Gershwin, McHugh, Fields, Arlen, Koehler, Rodgers, Hart, Porter, Martin, Blane and Pierpont. Ms. Graves will bring her rich, shimmering mezzo and interpretative flair to the songs of these composers.

Denyce Graves has sung in many leading opera houses and concert venues around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna Staatsoper, Covent Garden in London and the Festival Maggio Musicale in Florence. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut during the 1995-96 season as Carmen, one of her signature roles.

The BSO New Year's concerts will take place Thursday, December 29 and Friday, December 30 at 8 p.m. in the Bilkent Concert Hall. Tickets are available at locations including the concert hall and mybilet outlets in Ankara as well as online at mybilet.com.
