Board of Trustees Meets

The Bilkent University Board of Trustees met on September 28, 2011. Present at the meeting were Board Chairman Ali Doğramacı, İlker Baybars, Turgay Coşkun, Gülsev Kale, Ahmet Nalbur, Ersin Özince, Muhsin Saraçlar, Lütfü Sel and Rector Abdullah Atalar.

At the meeting, the Board of Trustees discussed a number of proposals that had been put forth by the University Senate.

Among these was the establishment of a Department of Architecture in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. The Board of Trustees reviewed the final procedures for the establishment of the department, accepting the proposal of the University Senate.

Upon approval by the Higher Educational Council of Turkey (YÖK), the department will admit its first students in the fall of 2012. The mission of the department will be to educate architects who are well-grounded in architectural principles and theory, and able to successfully apply this knowledge; experienced in collaboration with diverse disciplines; knowledgeable  about the latest developments in architecture, both globally and nationally; knowledgeable about sustainability and energy conservation; and creative, well-disciplined and intellectual.

The Board reviewed and approved the Senate's proposals on making various changes to the graduate schools' regulations. All graduate schools are now subject to the same guidelines. The Board also decided to authorize the Bilkent Holding Company, which is wholly owned by Bilkent University, to consider its strategic options for its shares in the TAV Corporation.
