TDP's "Hearts 1 Leukemia 0" Project Cheers Up Children
Volunteers in the TDP project "Kalpler 1 Lösemi 0" (Hearts 1 Leukemia 0) work to help children hospitalized with leukemia, offering them support and friendship and reminding them that there are people outside the hospital who care about them and want to see them get well soon.
Project members visit the hospital every Sunday morning. To entertain the children, they wear clown costumes and masks, give out small gifts, play the guitar or other instruments, and do activities with them. Sometimes the volunteers simply sit and talk with the patients and their families about their hometowns, their future plans and their hobbies. In addition, project members have created a database listing potential donors, from various blood groups, who are willing to give blood for children in need of transfusions.
In the near future, project members hope to expand the database in order to supply blood to every child in need. They are also planning to paint the walls of the hospital corridor and the patient rooms, in order to brighten up the areas where the children must spend so much time.
If you want to feel real happiness, say the Kalpler 1 Lösemi 0 volunteers, you are welcome to join them. Because, "Miracles only happen if you believe in miracles..."
