Who's Coming?

During the past few weeks, I've been suggesting some foreign music festivals, but if you happen to be stuck in Turkey this summer for whatever reason, you have still have a chance to see some great bands. Ticket prices, venues, the alcohol issue and the times of the gigs are always controversial here, but if you can deal with these problems, some legendary names as well as a few festivals await you. Here are some suggestions:

Red Hot Chili Peppers
It's a kind of a late summer concert, but finally Red Hot Chili Peppers are coming to Turkey on their biggest world tour. They'll perform at Santral İstanbul on September 8. Ticket prices start at 75 TL and go up to 850 TL. Personally I've grown up with RHCP and still adore them, but 850 TL for a special place to watch the gig and a few other VIP perks is kind of insane. I would say that the whole VIP concept goes against the spirit of music anyway. That's why going to Greece to see Red Hot Chili Peppers there and having a two-day holiday as well might be more logical than seeing them here.

Morrissey
If you missed Morrissey's 2006 concert at Parkorman, you have another chance -- he's coming here for the second time. He'll be  performing on July 19 at Cemil Topuzlu Açıkhava Sahnesi. The tickets are on sale now and cost 67.50 TL for students. If you have any doubts about whether it's worth going to see him, please check out his live performances on the Internet. Probably you haven't met a god before, but you can be sure that you will if you go to this concert.

Feist
Canadian singer and songwriter Leslie Feist's European tour includes İstanbul this year. I picked her fourth studio album, "Metals," as one of the best of 2011. It's really lucky that we can see her in Turkey, because she won't be performing at that many European music festivals. Feist's concert will be on August 25 at Santral İstanbul, and tickets are between 56 and 102 TL.

Pozitif Günler Festival
Pozitif Müzik is presenting a new festival called "Pozitif Günler." The company is showing its determination to keep this festival alive in the future by offering an assertive lineup. Nouvelle Vague (performing "Dawn of Innocence"), Jessie J, ZAZ, Two Door Cinema Club and Metronomy are going to be at Küçükçiftlik Park between June 25 and 28. The last day of the festival will be especially worthwhile, since it will feature young indie stars TDCC and Metronomy. Student tickets priced at 45 TL are already sold out; the remaining tickets start from 67.50 TL.

Tuborg GoldFest
Tuborg Gold Fest is going to bring Gun'N'Roses to İstanbul. The legendary hard rock band will perform at Parkorman with Evanescence, Within Temptation, Godsmack, Lacuna Coil, In Flames and Apocalyptica between July 4 and 7. Combi tickets are 150 TL, and unnecessary VIP combi tickets are 530 TL.
