Graduation Ceremonies to Be Held on June 17

Graduation ceremonies for Bilkent University graduate and undergraduate students will be held on Sunday, June 17 at the Bilkent Odeon. Ceremony and rehearsal times for each faculty and school will be announced soon.
10th Angora Cup Tournament Results
The 10th Angora Cup Interuniversity Sports Festival, organized by the Physical Education and Sports Center, was held May 3-6.
Approximately 200 students from Ankara, Ahi Evran, Atılım, Başkent, Bilkent, Hacettepe, Middle East Technical and Özyeğin universities and TOBB ETÜ participated in this special event. Students competed on an individual or team basis in badminton, Frisbee, football, squash, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
With four first-place finishes, Bilkent teams emerged victorious in the tournament. Congratulations to all participants and to the Cup winners.

IAED Student Competition Winners Announced
The award ceremony for the student design competition "Remodeling the FEASS Interior" was held at the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design on Friday, April 27. The competition was conducted by the IAED department in collaboration with the dean's office of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences as part of the third-year interior design studio spring semester studies.
Students worked in teams of two to four under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Semiha Yılmazer, Dr. Giorgio Gasco, Dr. Alper Küçük, Tomris Yardımcı, Tijen Türkkan and Hakan Yurdadoğan. In the first round, 24 projects were submitted. The 12 teams eligible for the second round then elaborated their initial proposals for final submission.
Prof. Dilek Önkal, the dean of FEASS; Assist. Prof. Meltem Gürel, the chair of the IAED department; Mevlüt Kahraman and Cenk Atmaca from Construction and Maintenance; and IAED department instructors participated in the evaluation process. Two proposals were selected for top honors, with those teams sharing the first prize. Prof. Önkal presented the awards and certificates at the ceremony.

Elman Mecid Wins First Prize in Germany
Elman Mecid, a 10th grade student at the Bilkent University Music and Ballet Primary School, has won first prize in the Fourth International Marimba Competition. Organized by "Marimba Festiva," this year's competition took place April 12-15 in Nürnberg, Germany. Elman came in first in his age group (14-16) and was invited by the head of the competition jury to attend master classes in Sweden and Austria during the summer on a full scholarship.
Elman began his education at the Bilkent Faculty of Music and Performing Arts Music Preparatory School in 2002. In 2011 the young musician won second prize in the Fourth International Percussion Competition, "Perkulliria," held in Valencia, Spain. In 2010, he participated in "Giornate della Percussione" in Italy, winning awards for first and third place in two different categories.
Elman has given a number of performances over the years, including his playing of Kreisler's "Shön Rosmarin" with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra. In 2008, he gave a recital at Çankaya Municipality's Modern Arts Center. This was followed in 2009 by a performance of Hasan Rzaev's Scherzo with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, he performed the Saint-Saens Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso with the Eskişehir Anatolia Symphony Orchestra.
Elman is currently the youngest member of the Doğuş Children's Symphony Orchestra and is studying percussion with Aydın Mecid.
