Student Council Elections Suspended

The Ankara 17th Administrative Court has granted a "stay of execution" in connection with the lawsuit filed against Bilkent University by Serdal Akyurt, a student in the Department of Archaeology and a former student council representative from the Faculty of Humanities and Letters, regarding "cancellation of the new election calendar." The court will examine the case in full and finalize its decision at a later date.

Due to the stay of execution, Bilkent University student council elections were suspended as of 5:30 p.m., May 3. At this stage, the voting for department representatives has been concluded.

However, the results will not be announced due to the stay of execution. After the current situation is determined through an official report, further proceedings on the motion will be carried out in accordance with the judicial process. Should the case be dismissed by the court, Bilkent University will announce the results of the election for department representatives and continue to follow the procedures outlined in the election calendar.

Student council general assembly and the faculty/school/graduate school representative elections, which were previously scheduled in the election calendar for May 4, 2012, will be rescheduled following the court's decision.
