Dr. Adalı's Book Published as a State Archives of Assyria Study
Selim Ferruh Adalı, who has been teaching Akkadian (Babylonian), Hittite and Sumerian in the Bilkent University Department of Archaeology since September 2009, has just published a new book as Volume XX of the State Archives of Assyria Studies, in conjunction with the Neo-Assyrian Text Corpus Project (NATCP). Dr. Adalı's book is titled "The Scourge of God: The Umman-manda and Its Significance in the First Millennium BC."
Dr. Adalı is a 2002 graduate of Bilkent University's Department of International Relations. Even then, he already had a keen interest in ancient civilizations and their mythologies. He pursued studies in this area at Sydney University, Australia, where he completed his PhD.
In his 222-page book, Dr. Adalı provides a comprehensive analysis of Umman-manda, a literary term used to designate military and ethnic groups in the ancient Near East. The NATCP, which is based at Helsinki University, is an international project well known in the field of Assyriology (cuneiform studies).
