Times Higher Education Ranks Bilkent Among the World's Top 400 Universities

In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2011-12, Bilkent University has again been ranked among the top 400 and remains the highest-ranked university in Turkey. The list places Bilkent in the group of universities ranked 201-225.

The California Institute of Technology ranked first and Harvard University and Stanford University both ranked second. Other Turkish universities included in the list are İTÜ, METU and Boğaziçi University.

The Times Higher Education global list of top universities, which is compiled with data provided by Thomson Reuters, gives universities individual rankings from 1 to 200. Universities from 200 to 400 are ranked in groups. Bilkent University is in the first of these groups, 201-225, with İTÜ and METU in the 276-300 group and Boğaziçi in the 301-350 group.

The rankings are arrived at using a system that assigns a score to 13 performance indicators in five categories: teaching (30%), research (30%), citations (30%), international mix (7.5%) and industry income (2.5%).

Times Higher Education claims to be "the UK's most authoritative source of information about higher education." According to The New York Times and The Chronicle of Higher Education, THE's world ranking of universities has been one of the most influential factors in international education analysis and is routinely relied on by both private and governmental funding sources.
