BSO Celebrates Valentine's Day with Azerbaijani Songs

A St. Valentine's Day concert took place in the Bilkent Concert Hall on February 14. Conducted by Rauf Abdullayev, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra performed romantic songs by the well-known Azerbaijani composers Kara Karayev and Fikret Amirov.

Kara Karayev was one of Azerbaijan's most outstanding composers in the Soviet period. During his lifetime, Karayev wrote nearly 110 works, including ballets and operas. Another prominent and prolific composer in Azerbaijan during the Soviet period, Fikret Amirov wrote many famous symphonic works and ballets.

A professor at Baku State Conservatory, conductor Rauf Abdullayev has been general musical director of the Baku State Symphony Orchestra since 1984. He is a state artist, and is currently the general musical director of the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra.
