BY GONCA ARAZ (MAN/II)
Last week, Bilkenters and Ankara residents interested in the martial arts had the opportunity to advance their skills in Kendo under the instruction of an expert from Japan, Yutaka Asami (8th Dan Kyoshi in Kendo) of Iwate University.
On November 6, a special Kendo class, organized by the Bilkent Kendo Association and taught by Asami Sensei ("master"/"teacher"), took place in Bilkent's Main Campus Sports Center.
The class, which lasted two hours, was open to both beginner- and advanced-level attendees interested in Kendo. These included Kendo practitioners of various ages from Bilkent University and the Ankara Kendo İaido Association. Another two-hour session took place the following evening in the Bilkent Sports Center, with two more sessions held at the Ankara Kendo İaido Association Center on November 8-9. The classes attracted a large attendance.
The week was capped off by the 3rd Ankara Kendo Days on November 10-11. Yutaka Asami Sensei was the main instructor for the two-day event, which took place in the Bilkent Dormitories Sports Center and included 12 hours of instruction.
