TDP: Hearts 1 Leukemia 0

Hearts 1 Leukemia 0 is a TDP (Social Awareness Projects) project in which volunteers try to help children who have blood cancer, above all by spending time with them.

Hearts 1 Leukemia 0 volunteers visit hospitalized leukemia patients and entertain them in various ways, such as talking with them about what they want to be in the future, singing songs and playing games with them. They often employ "clown therapy" to bring laughter into hospital rooms, and also paint the walls to make the children's environment more cheerful.

In addition, the group's projects include creating a donor database to find blood, marrow and platelets when they are needed, and organizing meetings and seminars about leukemia to enlighten more people concerning this disorder.

The Hearts 1 Leukemia 0 group hopes to help Bilkent students become more aware of leukemia, and would like to see more volunteers join them. They have the following message for anyone who might be interested:

“Please don't forget that leukemia isn't contagious, and you can't get it by spending time and having fun with children who have it. To see happier children, join us, we will win this fight together.”
