Bilkent Symphony Orchestra: On the Road and at Home
Last week, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra traveled east for two special concerts. On Thursday, November 15, the BSO performed in the Bilkent Erzurum Concert Hall at the İhsan Doğramacı Foundation's Bilkent Erzurum Laboratory School. The other stop on the schedule was in Iraq, where the İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Erbil College Concert Hall hosted the orchestra on Saturday, November 17.
Both performances, featuring the same program, were conducted by the BSO's artistic director, Işın Metin. The concerts began with Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, with acclaimed Russian pianist Alexander Ghindin as soloist. In the second half of the program the BSO performed the perennial classic, Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" by Antonin Dvorak.
Here in Ankara, the BSO's next performance will take place at the Bilkent Concert Hall on Saturday, December 1, with Dmitry Yablonsky as conductor and Toğrul Ganiyev on violin. The program will consist of works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Robert Schumann.
