Career Fair Coming to Bilkent

Has anyone ever asked you what you wanted to be or do when you grow up? Many of us have answered in the same way: doctor, teacher, lawyer, etc. But today, much of the population has no idea what they want to be.
March 22, 2002 is a good day to start searching for answers. On that day, the Career Fair will be held at the Student Sports Center. It is a day to gather information by making contacts. Meeting people who work in your potential field can give you valuable insight into what life is like in that field. There is no better way of learning about a career than talking to professionals in the field. Last year, 22 leading companies had stands in the career fair while almost 3000 students attended the fair to find out about jobs and opportunities.
Between March 22-May 17, you will have the chance to arrange informational interviews with sector and company officials. In addition to these activities, KAYİYEM (Career Development and Placement Center) offers substantial assistance through research materials, useful lectures, alumni contacts, and the latest resume and career development workshops. A recent publication by KAYİYEM, Etkin İş Arama Rehberi (Effective Job-Seeking Guide), has many copies available under the Call Number HF5383 in the library, along with many other helpful books and guides.
Do not miss this opportunity to design your career path. And if you attend the Career Fair on March 22, make sure to have copies of your resume with you. You don't have to be good to start, but you have to start to be good!

Tribute to Akın Öncül

Akın Öncül, a Grade 12 student at Bilkent University Preparatory School (BUPS), passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 17. He was 18 and had a very bright future. His funeral was on Tuesday, and was attended by many friends and family.
Akın was a rare student who took a genuine interest in learning; he aimed for the greatest heights and was hoping to study at MIT this autumn. When we think of Akın, the first thing that comes to mind is his stellar academic performance; there was, however, a lighter side to Akın: he was a guitar player, a pool player, a volleyball player; but most importantly, he was a great friend who always cheered us up and was always there for us. He will be deeply missed, but not forgotten.
