Turkish Grand National
Assembly Honor Prize Awarded to Prof. İhsan Doğramacı
It was announced earlier this semester that Prof. İhsan Doğramacı, Chairman of the
Board of Trustees at Bilkent, would be awarded the National Sovereignty Honor Prize for
his significant contributions to the promotion and representation of Turkey on the
international stage with his distinguished achievements and success after the Presidential
Board of the Parliament passed the motion to honor Hoca Bey with a unanimous vote. The
ceremony to commemorate this achievement will take place this Wednesday, May 30,
at the TBMM Ceremony Hall at 11 a.m. where Hoca Bey will receive a
certificate, a plaque and a monetary award.
Prof. Doğramacı is being given this award for his outstanding contributions to Turkish
education, his founding of Bilkent and Hacettepe Universities and his academic
contributions to the field of medicine.Bilkent Library Receives Generous Book Donation From Cevdet Kudret's

The critic, scholar, poet and short story writer, Cevdet Kudret, was remembered last week
at Bilkent when his family donated his book collection to Bilkent Library and the Bilkent
community honored this prominent figure of Turkish literature.
In a ceremony on May 22 at the library, Rector Prof. Ali Doğramacı paid tribute to
Cevdet Kudret, who would have been 100 years old this year. Kudret’s daughter, Ayşe
Kudret, gave a brief address on behalf of the Kudret family, which was followed by a
plaque ceremony acknowledging the generous and extensive gift in honor of Cevdet Kudret.
In total, the Kudret family donated 640 books and 1309 periodical collections to the
library.
Following the ceremony at the library, a discussion-panel organized by the Center for
Turkish Literature was held to pay further tribute to Cevdet Kudret’s accomplishments.
Speakers at the panel discussion included Prof. Metin And, Yusuf Çötüksöken, Dr. Efnan
Dervişoğlu, and Assoc. Prof. Handan İnci.

Bilkent Professor Swims Away
With Awards
The Turkish National Underwater Photography Team member Prof. Orhan Aytür of the
Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, received third prize at the recent
CMAS (Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques / World Underwater
Confederation) 11th Underwater Photography World Championship. CMAS is the international
umbrella organization for diver training organizations.
The CMAS 11th Underwater Photography World Championship was held in the island nation of
Mauritius between May 9 - 14 with the participation of 27 photographers from 16 nations in
each category. Prof. Aytür received third prize in the Macro Category and also ranked 9th
in the Wide-Angle without Model category.
Prof. Aytür has been fond of photography since he was a child. He started scuba diving in
1998 and underwater photography in 2000. Prof. Aytür joined the Turkish National
Underwater Photography Team after becoming the national champion in 2006.

The Second Issue
of Bilkent Koza Comes Out!
The Bilkent
Basın Yayın Kulübü (Bilkent Journalism Club) recently published the second issue of
its ideas & literature magazine, Bilkent Koza, in May 2007. As you all might remember,
Bilkent Koza is a student magazine, which impressed Bilkenters with its first issue and
received positive feedback from its readers.
The 32 page inaugural issue included articles, essays, poems, short stories and interviews
all written and prepared by students. (continues)
