Library Art Gallery Opens Season
Renowned Artist Paints "Love, Life, Death"
The Art Gallery will open its new season on Wednesday, October 13 with an exhibition of new works by outstanding Turkish painter Prof. Sema Ilgaz Temel. The opening ceremony will be at 6 p.m. The exhibition will include original prints and new paintings on canvas.
Temel has participated in many national and international exhibitions and has shown her work in 12 one-person exhibitions. Her art illustrates more than 40 book covers and is widely published.
Temel says of the creative process: “For me the process of painting means more than a journey which has a certain beginning and end. It is more like an adventure open to all effects and full of surprises. So when I am almost at the end of a work sometimes I turn over the paper or the canvas and star a new journey guided by a different image."
The exhibit runs through to Wednesday, November 3 between 10:30 a.m and 6 p.m. except Sundays.
Temel, who was born in Istanbul in 1957, graduated in 1978 from the Department of Graphic Design at Devlet Tatbiki Güzel Sanatlat Yüksekokulu. Temel attended the Salzburg Summer Academy from 1983 to 1987 on an Australian scholarship.
In 1999, Temel joined the faculty of fine arts at Yeditepe University, where she is currently a member of the Department of Graphic Design. She is a founding member of the Plastic Arts Foundation of Turkey and the Ex-Libris Foundation.
