YÖK's Past, Present and Future Addressed by Prof. Özcan

The Young Leaders Club, which conducts many academic and social activities, held its first lecture of the semester on February 22. The lecture, given by the former chairman of the Higher Education Council (YÖK), Ambassador Prof.  Yusuf Ziya Özcan, was entitled "The Past, Present and Future of YÖK."

Prof. Özcan started by giving information about the education system of the Turkish Republic, with examples from the period up until the founding of YÖK. Turning to the state of higher education in the country today, he indicated that the current system has not yet reached the desired level. Although a large number of academic publications are being produced, the number of patents is unfortunately not as great as might be hoped.

Following the lecture, Prof. Özcan took questions from the audience, to which he provided extensive and thoughtful responses. At the end of the session, the Young Leaders Club thanked the speaker and presented him with a plaque.
