The Inside Story of Structures: “Thinking with Lines”

BY ÖZGE HATİPOĞLU (MAN/III)

An exhibition called "Thinking with Lines" opened on October 14 in the FADA art gallery. The exhibition was organized by the Association of Architects 1927 and curated by Celal Abdi Güzer.

As the exhibition's name implies, its main focus is on the early drawings and sketches of prominent Turkish architects, with final designs also shown, giving an idea of how ideas that start out in each case as a single line on a piece of paper eventually become the structures around us. The exhibition includes the best-known designs of 39 architects, such as Ragıp Buluç, the designer of the Atakule, and İlhan Kural, who designed the Bilkent University English Preparatory School buildings in 1993.

Among those who attended the opening were many students and faculty members from FADA. On the occasion, Nermin Atılgan, secretary of the board of directors of the Association of Architects 1927, spoke about the ideas behind the exhibition, and also mentioned the Association's interest in organizing more exhibitions at Bilkent in the future.

"Thinking with Lines" will remain on display in the FADA art gallery until October 24. For more information on exhibitions and events organized by the Association of Architects 1927, you may visit www.md1927.gov.tr.
