The earthquake in Van and the surrounding area on Sunday, October 23, has deeply affected everyone.
In response to this devastating event, the Bilkent University Social Responsibility Center is organizing an aid drive to support emergency operations in the region and reach out to those afflicted by the disaster.
Donation boxes will be placed on campus at FEASS, Kıraç and Speed Cafeterias, Buildings N and R on East Campus, and in several of the dormitories and the faculty housing areas.
On October 19, early in the morning, at least 24 soldiers were killed due to a terrorist attack in the Çukurca district of Hakkari. The event drew condemnation from several parties worldwide, as well as from the Bilkent community.
Later the same day, Bilkent students gathered to protest terrorism and to show once again their support for the heroes fighting against terrorism.
Organized by the Student Council, the walk began in front of the FEASS building and ended at the square beside the statue of Atatürk. During their walk, the students carried banners condemning terrorist activities and sang anthems, showing their support for the struggle against terrorism and their deep concern for the unity of the community. The ceremony by the statue began with a moment of silence and was followed by the national anthem. The event concluded with a declaration against terrorism by the Student Council.
Following the attacks, all parties and similar activities on campus were also canceled by the student clubs and Radyo Bilkent.
