One of the most adventurous clubs at Bilkent University, Bilkent Arama Kurtarma ve İlkyardım Topluluğu (Bilkent Search-Rescue and First Aid Community), is continuing its activities in the great outdoors. After organizing several rafting, hiking and rock climbing excursions, the club is now conducting winter alpinism training.
Close your eyes and imagine that you are on a summit, and feel the absolute freedom and limitless adrenaline in every single cell! The Community offers you the opportunity to experience this feeling for real. You need to allocate just eight hours for lectures and two weekends for training. You will then be ready for an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life.
The training schedule includes four lectures, two training camps and one summit climb. The lectures and camps have been planned as two sections. The first is to teach basic mountaineering skills such as navigation and sheltering outdoors. The second section will be on the technical skills of winter alpinism, such as using ice axes and crampons.
Two of the four lectures have already taken place, but if you want to participate, it is still possible to join in the remaining sessions. After the third lecture, the first training camp will be held, and the sessions will then be completed with one more lecture and a second training camp. Then the summit climb will be held at Aladağlar, at an altitude of around 3500m. The date of the climb will depend on the weather conditions and will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
The remaining two technical lessons will be held on November 29 and December 6 in G-236 at 5:40 p.m.
