This week is Library Week! Every year in Turkey, the last week of March is used to celebrate the special role of libraries and librarians, and as usual Bilkent University Library has organized some special events to mark this occasion.
On Monday this week, the Library hosted a mini-concert in the Art Gallery of Main Campus Library with performances by young musicians from the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts.
On Wednesday, March 27, the Library will hold a group reading activity, entitled "Bring Your Book, Let's Read Together." If you wish to participate in this communal reading session, please come to the grass area between Main Campus Library and the Rectorate building between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Also, on Thursday at 2:40 p.m., Mr. Hilmi Yavuz, renowned Turkish poet and faculty member of the Department of Turkish Literature, will give a presentation entitled "Sahih ve Merkezsizleşmiş Lirizm" (Authentic and De-centered Lyricism) in the Art Gallery. This presentation will be in Turkish with English translation.
Finally, as many of you know, for the past few weeks the Library has been holding a poetry competition open to all Bilkent undergraduate students. This competition is now closed, and the judges are busy reading the poetic submissions. A special prize-giving ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at 12:40 p.m. in the Art Gallery, at which the rector, Prof. Abdullah Atalar, will present awards to the three best competitors.
