Workshop with Leonard Retel Helmrich
Renowned filmmaker Leonard Retel Helmrich met with Bilkent students on March 18. Mr. Helmrich led a workshop on his influential "Single Shot Cinema" film technique for COMD students.
Leonard Retel Helmrich is a Dutch cinematographer and filmmaker of Indonesian descent. He has received the highest honors for international documentaries at the Sundance Festival and was the first two-time winner of the award for best feature-length documentary film at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. He is famous for perfecting the "Single Shot Cinema" filming style and related technical camera innovations. Single Shot Cinema is a way of filming that enables one to shoot a scene in a single take using just one camera moving fluidly around the subject.
Mr. Helmrich also showed COMD students some scenes from his latest documentary, "Raw Herring," which will be screened for the first time at the Tribeca Film Festival in April.
