CCI Symposium to Examine "Alternative Enlightenments"

The Program in Cultures, Civilizations and Ideas will be hosting an international symposium entitled "Alternative Enlightenments" this Friday through Sunday, April 26-28, in room A-130 and the C-Block Auditorium. The symposium will examine both philosophical debates on the concept of enlightenment and the manifold historical ramifications of this term in different cultural, political and literary contexts.

Felicity Nussbaum, a professor of English at UCLA, will deliver the keynote address, "The Tragedy of Enlightenment," from 5:45-7 p.m. on Friday evening in the C-Block Auditorium. Panel sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and continue, with a break for lunch, until 5:15 p.m. On Sunday, sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 1:15 p.m. All panel sessions will take place in room A-130.
