Bilkent Faculty Members Receive BAGEP Awards
Asst. Prof. Can Alkan and Asst. Prof. Buğra Gedik of the Department of Computer Engineering, Asst. Prof. Esra Çuhadar Gürkaynak and Asst. Prof. Zeki Sarıgil of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and Asst. Prof. Engin Durgun of UNAM have received 2013 distinguished young scientist (BAGEP) awards.
The awards are given by the Science Academy Association (Bilim Akademisi Derneği) in order to recognize and support outstanding young scientists working in Turkey.
European Justice Policy Discussed by Austria's Minister of Justice

Organized by the Faculty of Law and FEASS, a conference on "Recent Developments in European Justice Policy," with Prof. Beatrix Karl, minister of justice of Austria, as the main speaker, was held last week on Thursday, April 18 at Mithat Çoruh Auditorium.
The conference began with opening remarks by Prof. Osman Berat Gürzumar, dean of the Faculty of Law, and continued with a speech by Ambassador Jean-Maurice Ripert, head of the delegation of the European Union to Turkey.
In his talk, Ambassador Ripert, who has led the delegation since January 2012, focused on Turkey-EU relations and Turkey's accession process. He concluded with this observation: "Enlargement is not only a bureaucratic process.

Bilkent, TAI to Cooperate in Research and Education
On April 9, Bilkent University signed an academic cooperation protocol with TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries). Present at the ceremony were Rector Abdullah Atalar, TAI General Manager Muharrem Dörtkaşlı, TAI President for Strategy and Technological Management Yılmaz Güldoğan and Prof. Adnan Akay, vice president of the Board of Trustees of Bilkent University.
The purpose of the protocol is to provide the basis for collaboration in undertaking joint projects in research and development, education and academic studies. The two organizations look to maximize opportunities of using their respective facilities to the greatest advantage through cooperative ventures.
National UNESCO-L’Oreal Award Goes to Dr. Taştan
Asst. Prof. Öznur Taştan of the Department of Computer Engineering has been awarded the 2013 national UNESCO-L'Oreal National Women in Science Award for her research in the field of computational biology.
The UNESCO-L'Oreal Women in Science Program aims to improve the position of women in science by recognizing outstanding women researchers who have contributed to scientific progress.
Dr. Taştan will be honored at a ceremony to be held in Istanbul on May 10.
Spring Fest 2013 Comes to Campus Next Week
Spring Fest is coming to campus to celebrate the end of the semester and welcome the summer holiday. From April 29 to May 4, activities will be held on the Main Alley, in the Main Campus Spring Fest Area and at the Odeon.

Notes:
1.Portable toilets will be available in the Main Campus Spring Fest Area May 2 to May 4.
2. Pitching tents on the grass will not be allowed for security and health reasons.
3. Pets will not be allowed in the Spring Fest area.
4. As parking is always a problem, students are advised to use public transportation rather than bringing their cars to campus (especially May 2 to May 4).
5. For security reasons, entrance to the campus will be restricted throughout Spring Fest exclusively to those holding Bilkent-issued IDs.
