Assoc. Prof. Demir Named Editor for Springer-Verlag Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Series
Assoc. Prof. Hilmi Volkan Demir of UNAM (National Nanotechnology Research Center and Institute of Materials Science and Nanotechnology) and the Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Physics has been named editor of the Springer-Verlag Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Series.
Springer-Verlag is a major international scientific publisher and one of the publishing houses most respected in the scientific community. The series for which Dr. Demir will serve as editor publishes significant works in nanoscience and nanotechnology, disciplines which offer ways to make and explore design-based artificial structures that do not exist in nature. For example, crystalline nanoparticles and nanowires can be assembled into complex surfaces or composite structures with new electronic and optical properties. The unique properties of these superstructures result from the physical arrangement of such nanocomponents. Also, in such nanoengineered structures, the light-material interactions at the nanoscale can be modified and enhanced, giving rise to nanophotonic effects. These emerging areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology have now reached a level of wide-scale applicability and popularity.
Professor Demir's duties as series editor include developing and expanding the series, proposing themes for volumes in the series, and locating suitable manuscripts and authors to develop works for the series.
