It's All About Film: Sinefest '13 Brings Filmmakers, Actors to Campus
Sinefest, Bilkent's annual film festival showcasing Turkish cinema, is currently underway. Organized by Bilkent Sanatsal Etkinlikler Topluluğu with sponsorship from the Ministry of Culture, Sinefest '13 kicked off on April 26, with film screenings continuing through Saturday, May 4. The festival will close on May 5 with an award ceremony and a concert.
Movies were selected by the SET team from among those released during the previous year. Films being shown at Sinefest '13 are: “Ateşin Düştüğü Yer,” “Çakallarla Dans,” “Gözetleme Kulesi,” “Güzel Günler Göreceğiz,” “Sen Aydınlatırsın Geceyi,” “Uzun Hikaye,” “Tepenin Ardı,” “Vücut” and “Zenne.” Screenings, discussions and other festival events are taking place in various locations on the Bilkent campus, and are open free of charge to members of the Bilkent community.

May Fest 2013
May Fest 2013 is being held this week, from April 29 to May 4, with activities taking place on the Main Alley, in the Main Campus May Fest Area and at the Odeon.

Bilkent Dominates Angora Cup
ilkent teams and players had outstanding success in the 11th Angora Cup Interuniversity Sports Festival. Organized by the Physical Education and Sports Center, the festival took place last weekend, April 25-28.
Approximately 250 students from universities including Atılım, Başkent, Bilkent, METU, Özyeğin, Polis Akademisi and TOBB ETU participated in this special event, competing as individuals or as teams to win cups and awards in badminton, football, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
Among the universities represented at the tournament, Bilkent placed in the top three in each team and individual event. The badminton and women's volleyball teams had particularly strong showings.

Bilkent Book Festival: A Student Book Fair in Ankara
Organized by Edebiyat Topluluğu and Sanatsal Etkinlikler Topluluğu, the Bilkent Book Fest is taking place on campus during Spring Fest. Unlike book fairs held in gloomy indoor settings, the Bilkent Book Fest is an outdoor event, offering the chance to browse the volumes on display while enjoying the spring sunshine.
In addition to the outdoor book fair, the festival includes talks and book signings by Atilla Dorsay (which took place on Monday), Bekir Coşkun, Ercan Kesal and Murat Menteş, as well as two workshops. (Students taking GE250/1 will receive points for attending these events, as indicated in the program on page 8.)

Assoc. Prof. Demir Named Editor for Springer-Verlag Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Series
Assoc. Prof. Hilmi Volkan Demir of UNAM (National Nanotechnology Research Center and Institute of Materials Science and Nanotechnology) and the Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Physics has been named editor of the Springer-Verlag Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Series.
Springer-Verlag is a major international scientific publisher and one of the publishing houses most respected in the scientific community.
