The “Doğramacı International Relations for Peace Fellowship” for 2004 has been awarded to Dr. Zakaria al Qaq and Dr. Gershon Baskin, Co-Chairmen of the Israel-Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI), in recognition of their search for practical solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
A jury composed of Ambassador (Rt.) Oktay Aksoy, Ambassador (Rt.) Reşat Arım, Prof. Dr. Bülent Bozkurt, Prof. Talat Halman, Prof. Dr. Ali Karaosmanoğlu and Prof. Ergun Özbudun evaluated seven candidates, and the jury’s assessment was approved by the Bilkent University Executive Board.
The award was presented to Dr. Zakaria al Qaq along with Dr. Gershon Baskin by Rector Ali Doğramacı and Mr. Seyfi Taşhan, President of the Turkish Foreign Policy Institute, at a ceremony held at Bilkent Concert Hall on Friday, April 2. A concert by the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra followed with Klaus Weise conducting and Vanya Milanova de Kevser taking part as soloist for the F. Mendelssohn violin concerto in E minor, op.64. The award winners have declared that the prize money will be used for IPCRI peace in education work.
The Fellowship, awarded every alternate year, has been established in the name of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bilkent University, Prof. İhsan Doğramacı, and is meant to encourage scientific research contributing to the development and improvement of international relations and friendship among nations.
