Assoc. Prof. Faruk Selçuk, a member of the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 22, due to a heart attack. His untimely death was a great shock to all of his family members, students and colleagues, and to the entire Bilkent family.

He served as a visiting faculty member at Bridgeport University, Queens College and Colorado College. He came to the Bilkent Department of Economics in 1992.
Assoc. Prof. Selçuk's area of study was financial econometrics and advanced macroeconomic theory. He was the author of many books and articles in refereed journals on finance, inflation, the Turkish economy, foreign exchange, econometrics and the stock exchange.
A gathering to commemorate and pay tribute to Assoc. Prof. Selçuk was held on February 23 in front of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Building. He will be sadly missed not only by his family, but also by large numbers of colleagues and former students.

Below is a tribute from Prof. Ramazan Gençay, a close friend who worked with Faruk Selçuk for several years.
“Dear Faruk,
Knowing you for 20 years, and speaking with you every week, even from an ocean away, I feel the void left behind is too great. The hours we spent discussing everything from politics to ways of living... and how we could dream of changing the status quo... these ideas were shared as only friends and brothers can share.
Your scholarly devotion was like no one else's. What an honor and pleasure it was to see you create research ideas and follow them through! I can tell you that you kept me going, keeping it interesting and fun.
Friendly and respectful criticism exchanged back and forth... how I appreciated and loved it all.
Your students, friends and colleagues have benefited so much from your passion for your work and for life.
I loved you as a brother and miss you so much.”

Bilkent Wins Final Two Games

The "Ayva Cup" intermural basketball tournament organized by Bilkent University ended last weekend with the two final games played between the Bilkent-Sabancı and Bilkent-Koç men's teams. The Ayva Cup tournament was a great opportunity for students to show their school spirit by cheering on their teams.
Six universities played in the tournament: Başkent, Bilkent, Sabancı, Koç, Hacettepe and Middle East Technical. In the overall results, Hacettepe came out on top and won the Ayva Cup in both the men's and women's divisions.
From the first matchups in November, all of the participating teams, both men and women, played very competitive games. Bilkent won both of its final two games, with scores of Bilkent 68 - Sabancı 48 and Bilkent 35 - Koç 29. The overall results of the tournament were as follows:
