“Gözünün Çapağı İla Dilrubacan” Gets POW'd!

zubur

It looks like the old paper and pencil story boards, the constant meetings and updates, the endless highlighted lists, and reams upon reams of paper may become obsolete. Almost anyone who has worked in television, film, or on other multimedia projects that require pre-production planning has hit the jackpot with new software, Celtx, which allows the entire creative team to upload their information to one, central location, and see what everyone else has done. A group of students from the Communications and Design Department took advantage of the system, and was POW'd for their efforts.

On March 28, a mock news program that satirizes real life Turkish news events - Gözünün Çapağı İla Dilrubacan, created and written my Nimet Kurşuncu (COMD/III) and her team - was chosen as the Celtx Project of the Week: POW!

The storyboard, shot list, production notes, set and wardrobe sketches, budget, lighting plan, and every minute piece of information needed to help a shoot run smoothly were put into place using the software.

According to Nimet Kurşuncu (COMD/III), as of March 31, "we finished our shootings and still editing our project. My screenwriter Selcan Doğruöz (COMD/IV), she has a great sense of humor and our dialogs were developed in shooting. Our Department chair, Andreas Treske told us about this software and website, so that we could upload our projects. ….I shared the project with my crew and everybody added their work. It's so effective."

What better way to celebrate a birthday than by spending time with people that mean so much to you. It's no secret that Professor İhsan Doğramacı, the founder and president of the university, has a passion for education and his students. So, on the occasion of his 93rd birthday, on April 3, it only seemed fitting that he would take some time to celebrate at the Bilkent Hotel and Conference Center with the students of the Departments of Tourism and Hotel Management, who baked and served a delicious, giant heart shaped cake in his honor!

Center of Turkish Literature Analyzes "The Book of Travel"

center

Bilkent's Center for Turkish Literature organized a three day international symposium on Evliya Çelebi, seventeenth century writer and traveller, focusing specifically on his work, Seyahatname (The Book of Travel). Considered to be a masterpiece, it is an important account of social and geographical conditions in Ottoman lands, written after 40 years of travel. He often represented the government on his excursions, but also travelled on his own, having a passion for learning about people and places. His imagination may have even got the better of him at times, leading to speculation that his work contained some embellishments. Regardless, Seyahatname is seen as an excellent resource for the understanding of the Ottoman Empire. (continues)
