DOST Members Climb to Celebrate Atatürk

Between February 18 and 20, four teams of  DOST members, Bilkents outdoors sports society, participated in the Sixth annual Climb for Atatürk (Ata'ya Bağlılık Uludağ Zirve Tırmanışı). This event is organized annually the by Uludağ University mountaineering and outdoor sports society. This year 158 mountaineers participated the event, and 106 of them, including Bahadır Uncu (CS/II) and Gökçe Pekcan (PSYC/I) from Bilkent DOST, reached peak level. They stood at attention at the summit of Uludağ Mountain in order to show respect for Atatürk and the mountaineers who perished climbing. For 6 years, more than 40 outdoor sports clubs and societies and hundreds of mountaineers have participated and have found a place to share their experiences and a chance to celebrate mountains.

Also last weekend, on February 20, DOST met adventurers' wishes with a snowy trek. DOST members guided  Bilkent students trekking to Işık Mountain. While the DOST teams were climbing Uludağ Mountain, a group nature and sport lovers got off the bus near Çerkeş village and started to hike. They were informed about the weather, and snow was too deep at some parts of the trek, thus they continued at a slow pace. Although it was cold, wet, and snowing, everyone had a lot of fun. With the slow pace caused by deep snow, it was possible the group would not make it back to the bus in time, so the group started to hike back to the bus without reaching the last stop of Karagöl. After a small photo shoot break, the group reached the bus and the journey back to Ankara began.

DOST welcomes new adventurers for the upcoming events. People, who are interested in mountain climbing, trekking, rock climbing, or orienteering, join Bilkent's most exciting club.
