Prodigy Studied Percussion at Bilkent

Fourteen-year-old Elman Mecid, a student of Bilkent's Music Preparatory School, won second place in the 4th International Percussion Competition, "Perkulliria," held in Valencia, Spain. After receiving his award, he was given an invitation to return back to Spain this summer to perform once more.

Mecid, a native of Ankara, was born in 1996 into a family already steeped in musical tradition. He began his education at Bilkent's Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, Music Preparatory School in 2002.

In 2010, he participated in "Giornate della Percussione" in two different categories held in Italy, winning the awards for first and third place. Mecid has given a number of performances over the years, including Kreisler's Shön Rosmarin with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra. In 2008, he gave a recital at Çankaya Municipality's Modern Arts Center. This was followed in 2009 by a performance of Hasan Rzaev's Scherzo with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, he performed Saint-Saens Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso with the Eskişehir Anatolia Symphony Orchestra.

Mecid is the youngest member of the Doğuş Children's Symphony Orchestra and continues his education in the 9th grade as a student of Aydın Mecid.
