Rector's Forum on Moodle Now Open

Rector Prof. Atalar has opened a forum on Moodle to facilitate communication and to answer student and faculty queries. The course will help users with problems they encounter and provide a forum for idea exchange. The course is intended as part of a plan to make the university administration more accessible to the Bilkent community.

In order to reach the Rector's Forum for Faculty, please follow the instruction listed below.

1. Log in to STARS/AIRS.
2. Click the relevant link on the menu on the left-hand side
3. You will be redirected to the relevant Moodle course page. Please click Atalar@Moodle for Faculty to enter the forum.

To reach the Rector's Student Forum (Atalar@Moodle), please follow these instructions:
1. Log in to SRS.
2. Click the link Atalar@Moodle on the top right corner.
3. Enter the course and find the forum.

Faculty of Business Administration Maintains Prestigious AACSB International Business Accreditation

Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) has maintained its accreditation by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business. 

Only 607 schools of business, or less than 5 percent worldwide, have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education.

Ninth International Conference at the Graduate School of Education

Between April 20 and 22, the Graduate School of Education brought together educators from Turkey, the United Kingdom and the USA to share thoughts, ideas and innovations in education. The conference was entitled Critical Thinking and Creativity: Learning Outside the Box.  It focused on the ways students learn to be creative thinkers, vital for their success in the future. Schools gave examples of programs that foster divergent ways of thinking with activities outside the classroom.

Administrative Changes

Mr. Ramiz Akgün, who has been serving Bilkent University since its foundation, informed the university administration that he will be resigning his position as Director of Construction and Maintenance Services of Bilkent effective May 1, 2011.

Mr. Akgün will continue to serve the Bilkent family and share his experience as Bilkent Coordinator at Cyberpark Ankara Teknoloji A.Ş. Rector Abdullah Atalar expressed his gratitude for Mr. Akgün’s service by saying: “Mr. Ramiz Akgün’s dedication, integrity, and performance over the past 25 years have been exemplary. I would like to thank him for all his contributions, especially to developing a unique Bilkent soul and to fostering good relations among institutions and units.”

Halman's Short History of Turkish Literature Published in the US

Syracuse University Press has recently released A Millennium of Turkish Literature: A Concise History written by Prof. Talat Halman, dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Letters and chair of the Department of Turkish Literature.

The 170-page book, edited by Dr. Jayne L. Warner, traces the history of more than a thousand years of Turkish literature from its outset until the present time.

Spring Fest Concerts

Spring Fest 2011 will take place from Thursday, May 5 to Saturday, May 7. The evening concerts, arranged by the Spring Fest Organization Committee, will be held at the ODEON, on May 5 and 6. Tickets will be required. Note that the concerts are only for Bilkent University students, personnel, and alumni.
Please note that student ID cards must be presented when purchasing tickets. Each student may only purchase one ticket, and it is not possible to buy group tickets. Please remember that at the entrance to the concert students will need to show their IDs with their tickets; otherwise they will not be allowed entrance.
