Newly Elected Student Council Executive Committee Takes Office

The Student Council elections were completed on November 29, and a new Executive Committee chosen. The new Student Council president is İsmail Uyanık, a PhD student in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The general secretary of the Executive Committee is Emirhan Gedeleç (COMD/IV). The other members of the committee and their areas of responsibility are as follows: Education, İsmail Çağrı Dağlı (Graduate School of Education/V); Health, Sports and Culture, Abdullah Furkan Karabulut (MBG/III); Treasurer, Emir Hancıoğlu (MAN/III).

Audit Committee members are Halil Yasin Telli (CTP/I), president; Gökçe Yanç (ETS/II); and Mustafa Kerem Yüksel (ECON/PhD).

The new Executive Committee of the Student Council took office on Friday, December 2, with the former Executive Committee members handing over responsibility to their newly elected successors during a ceremony held at the Rector's office. We wish the new Student Council and its leadership success during their term of office.

Message from the President of the Student Council

Dear Bilkenters,

On the behalf of the student council, I would first like to thank you for the high participation rate in this year's elections. I am really glad to serve you as the president of your student council, and I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about our plans for the new academic year. Our main goal this year is to develop the already rich social life that exists on campus. For this purpose, we will strengthen our ties with student clubs and make your wishes known to all relevant authorities. Additionally, we will be available to you through student council's newly established social networks. We will also be conducting some brief surveys through these networks to get feedback about our plans for the university. We urge you to take an active role in the betterment of our university by communicating with us and participating in the surveys.

We are dedicated to doing our best to represent each and every student, and Bilkent University.

Hilmi Yavuz Receives Honorary Doctorate

Hilmi Yavuz, Senior Lecturer in Bilkent's Department of Turkish Literature, was awarded a PhD honoris causa by Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University at a ceremony held on November 25. The university's rector, Prof. Dr. Sedat Laçiner, announced to a large audience of academics and students that the honorary title was conferred by a unanimous vote of the Çanakkale University Senate "in recognition of Hilmi Yavuz's significant contributions to Turkish poetry and intellectual life." Prof. Dr. Mustafa İsen, a leading scholar of classical Ottoman literature, a former undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and currently the secretary-general of President Abdullah Gül, presented the university's award certificate to Mr. Yavuz and paid tribute to him as a distinguished poet and leading intellectual.

Superior LEDs for a Bright Future in NANOTODAY!

A review of the research work on LED integrating semiconductor nanocrystal quantum dots (NQDs) by one of the research teams led by EURYI Assoc.
