TDP Conducts Organ Donation Campaign

As a "TDP (Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri) Atak" (Community Involvement Projects Attack), a seminar on organ donation was held in EE-01 on March 7. The seminar was given by Dilek Öztaş, assistant chief of staff at Numune Hospital. The presentation answered the questions, "What is organ donation?", "Who can donate?" and "Which organs can be donated?"

Organ donation, explained Dr. Öztaş, is allowing your organs to be transferred to an individual in need after your brain death. Organs that can be transplanted are the heart, kidneys, eyes, liver, lungs, pancreas, intestine and thymus. Tissues include bones, tendons, the cornea, skin, heart valves and veins. Although there is no absolute age limit for organ donation, in Turkey, harvesting organs and tissues from persons under the age of 18 or who are not of sound mind is forbidden.

Following the seminar, organ donation forms were available to be filled out in front of the Kirac Restaurant. After completing this procedure, student donors need only to inform their parents and to carry with them an information card indicating that they wish to donate their organs to help others live in case of their brain death.

Organ donation is a noble deed. One person can give life to seven others. You can be the hope of other people by donating your organs. Donate your organs, save lives!
