Bilkent Celebrates Library Week
Every year, during the last week of March, Turkey celebrates Library Week to recognize the important role of libraries and librarians in our daily and professional lives. This year, to mark Library Week, Bilkent Library is holding a number of cultural and fun activities open to all members of the university community.
The first activity took place on Monday, March 26, as part of the nationwide "Book Reading Event" that opened the 48th Library Week in Turkey. Bilkent Library organized a communal outdoor book reading, with students, faculty members, librarians and other Bilkent staff members bringing their own books to read together during the noon hour in the grass area next to the Library.
If you missed this activity, don't worry: there are many more events still to come. On Tuesday, March 27, Prof. Barbaros Tansel (IE) will hold a "Latin American Dance Workshop" at 2-3:30 p.m. in the Library Art Gallery, open to experienced dancers and beginners alike.
Short Film by HART Graduate Selected for Tribeca Film Festival
“Erik Zamanı” (Time of the Plums), a short film written and directed by Sezen Kayhan, a Bilkent graduate from the Department of Archaeology, will have its New York premiere at the 11th Tribeca Film Festival scheduled to take place between April 18 and 29 this year.
The Tribeca Film Festival, whose founders include the renowned actor Robert de Niro, has screened over 1,300 films from over 80 countries since the first such festival, organized in 2002 shortly after the 9/11 attacks to contribute to the long-term recovery of lower Manhattan.
"Erik Zamanı" was selected for the festival from among over 2,800 short films. It tells the story of Yasemin, a 10-year-old girl who lives in a self-created dream world, and her first encounter with death.
