Take Part in a Social Responsibility Project to Change the Future
The University Personnel Support Project (Üniversite Personeline Destek Projesi/ÜPDP) is one of the best-known projects of both the Bilkent University Social Awareness Projects (Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri - TDP) and the Community Volunteers Foundation (a national nongovernmental volunteer organization established in 2003). ÜDPD provides educational and social programs for children (in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades) of Bilkent University support staff members.
The organization offers a variety of classes and lessons, such as math, science, English, sociology, Turkish, theater and even guitar. Children can also participate in social activities, which have included bowling, acting in a theatrical production, going to the cinema and going on picnics, to which their families were also invited.
This year, 45 students are attending the classes organized by ÜDPD, made possible by a significant increase in the number of volunteers. Most of the classes are taught by Bilkent students from various departments. The program benefits both the volunteers, who gain a fantastic opportunity to develop their teaching abilities and assume social responsibilities, and the children of Bilkent University support staff members, who receive education that supplements their regular schooling: free classes taught by bright young volunteers on a university campus.
