MEP Volunteers Brighten the Lives of Nursing Home Residents

The Nursing Homes Project (Manevi Evlat Projesi - MEP) of Social Awareness Projects (Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri - TDP) exists to give moral support to elders living in rest homes. During their frequent visits to homes for the elderly, project volunteers let residents know that they are not alone and have not been forgotten. "We are here to let them know that they are an important part of society," say MEP representatives.

Volunteers not only visit and chat with nursing home residents, but also organize various types of activities, such as picnics, trips, musical events and board games. With permission from the Ankara office of the Social Services and Child Protection Agency (SHÇEK), MEP members pay weekly visits to the Ümitköy and Seyranbağları Nursing Homes on Sundays.

On the occasion of Elders' Week (March 18-24), MEP organized recreational activities culminating in a Turkish folk music concert. Additionally, on March 22 the volunteers attended a performance by a choir made up of elderly residents from a number of homes.

Project volunteers believe it is of the greatest importance that we all try to understand aged people and treat them with consideration. Be a part of Manevi Evlat Projesi, and be someone's grandchild for a day.
