TOG Bilkent: Making a Difference

TOG Bilkent (Bilkent Toplum Gönüllüleri), one of the subgroups of Bilkent's volunteer organization TDP (Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projesi), is a university branch of the Community Volunteers Foundation, a national non-governmental organization.
TOG Bilkent members have chosen to volunteer in order to improve the social environment. One of the ways they are doing this is through a project known as ÜPDP (Üniversite Personeline Destek Projesi). This project provides educational and social support to children (in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades) of Bilkent University support staff members.
This year, 24 volunteers from TOG Bilkent are assisting 76 children. They are not only focusing on their education, but also trying to support their personal development. For this purpose, the group has been organizing social activities. Last semester, they organized a computer training course in the BCC, where the children learned general computer and internet usage. They also took the children to see a play called "Büyümek İstiyorum." The group's current activity is a formal debate among the children, about a topic which they themselves chose last weekend.

Five Students Receive Sinan Karacadağ Scholarships This Semester

Sinan Karacadağ started his studies at the Faculty of Business Administration of Bilkent University in the 1998-1999 academic year, but passed away in a tragic traffic accident on November 21, 1999, at the age of nineteen. With funds donated by his family, the Sinan Karacadağ Scholarship
was established in his memory in June 2000.
The Sinan Karacadağ Scholarship is given as a full or partial tuition waiver each semester. Management students with good academic standing who do not receive other forms of financial aid are eligible. Applications are received at the end of each semester.
The Faculty of Business Administration is happy to announce that Feyza Çalpan, Beren Erdem, Merve Şirin, Ehsan Bahramsarı and Onur Taner have received Sinan Karacadağ Scholarships for the Spring 2004-2005 semester. We wish them a successful semester and continuing achievements in the future.
