Prof. Stone Publishes New History of Turkey

Prof. Norman Stone of the International Relations and History Departments has published a new book on the history of Turkey. The book, 192 pages in total and released on March 14, deals with the origins of the Turks to their arrival in Anatolia, the development of the Ottoman Empire, the foundation of the Republic in 1923, and Turkey's most recent years including the European Union accession process.

Speaking to Bilkent News upon his return to Turkey last week following an interview on BBC radio, Prof. Stone said: "There has been a lot of work done on Ottoman history in the past 10 to 20 years, as Turkey has come strongly back onto the world stage and an odd sign of that is that even taxi drivers know quite a bit about it. My book attempts to sum up this work for the considerable number of educated English speakers who come to Turkey every year."

Turkey: A Short History is published by Thames & Hudson.
