Department of Theater Marks World Theater Day

On Monday, Bilkent's Faculty of Music and Performing Arts participated in the celebration of the 49th annual World Theater Day (WTD) with a carnival and theater play.  This year, for the second time, Bilkent theater students marked the occasion by performing a carnival and open theater all through the main alley on Main Campus.

The event began with a mini performance in front of the Faculty of Management on "TV Addiction," and continued with the carnival.

Songs from famous plays were presented such as Zoraki Tabip, Lüküs Hayat, West Side Story, and Bir Sahnedir Dünya. The performances on Main Campus drew considerable interest from Bilkent students and staff due to the talent of the performers.

Created in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute, World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on March 27 around the world. According to Jessica A. Kaawah, this year's WTD spokesperson, "While the United Nations spends colossal amount of monies on peacekeeping missions around the world, through the use of arms, theatre is a spontaneous, human, less costly, and by far a more powerful alternative."

This colorful show proves to us again that spring is here and we should all celebrate being alive and being outside.
