Prof. Dilek Önkal Appointed as Dean of FEASS
Prof. Dilek Önkal has been appointed as the dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, effective May 1.
Prof. Önkal will take over the position of dean from Prof. Metin Heper, Provost (Vice Rector for Academic Affairs), who served as the dean between 1996-1998 and 2005-2011.
Dilek Önkal received her B.A. from Boğaziçi University and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, where she taught prior to joining Bilkent University in 1988. She was an academic visitor at Oxford University Department of Economics and an associate member of the Nuffield College during 2006-2007, and she currently holds a three-year visiting professorship at the University of Bath School of Management. During the last academic year, she was Chair of Supply Chain Management and Director of OASIS (Operations and Supply Chain Systems) Research Centre at Brunel Business School, Brunel University, U.K.. Prof. Önkal is the recipient of the 2006 Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award at Bilkent. She teaches probability and statistics, decision sciences and information systems, forecasting, and decision analysis.
Prof. Önkal is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Forecasters. She is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Forecasting, International Journal of Decision Sciences, and the International Journal of Applied Management Science. Prof. Önkal has served as an organizing committee member for the Oxford Forecasting Workshop: Making Economic Forecasts Work (Oxford 2007), the 16th International Symposium on Forecasting (Istanbul, 1996), and the 30th International Conference of Applied Econometrics Association on Health Econometrics (Ankara, 1990).
Professor Önkal's research focuses on judgmental forecasting, judgment and decision making, forecasting/decision support systems, risk perception and risk communication with a strong emphasis on multi-disciplinary interactions. Her work has appeared in several book chapters and journals such as Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Decision Sciences Journal, Risk Analysis, International Journal of Forecasting, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, Journal of Forecasting, Omega: The International Journal of Management Science, Foresight: The International Journal of Applied Forecasting, Frontiers in Finance and Economics, Risk Management: An International Journal, International Federation of Technical Analysts Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, and European Journal of Operational Research. She is a reviewer for grant councils such as the Economic & Social Research Council, The British Academy, European Science Foundation, Hong Kong Research Grants Council, and TÜBİTAK, in addition to many psychology, economics, political science, and business journals.
