8th Ayva Cup Basketball Tournament Underway
The eighth annual Ayva Cup Interuniversity Basketball Tournament has kicked off with games played between teams from Ankara universities. The universities participating in the tournament this year are:
From Ankara - Başkent, Bilkent, Hacettepe, METU
From İstanbul - Koç, Özyeğin
The Ankara group played their games at METU on March 9, 10 and 11. Men's and women's teams from the four universities challenged each other in order to qualify for the playoff in İstanbul.
The Bilkent women's team played very tough games against Hacettepe and METU and succeeded in winning both of them. The Bilkent men's team had extremely close games with Hacettepe and METU, but lost both by a few points. However, Bilkent beat Başkent by a substantial margin.
The Ayva Cup playoffs will take place in İstanbul during April. The Ankara group standings are as follows:
