EEE Graduate Serdar Yüksel Receives Applied Mathematics Award in Canada

Asst. Prof. Serdar Yüksel, a 2001 Bilkent Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate, has received the 2013 CAIMS/PIMS Early Career Award in Applied Mathematics.

A faculty member at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario (Canada), Dr. Yüksel, after graduating from Bilkent University, received his MSc in 2003 and his PhD in 2006, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Subsequently, he did postdoctoral work at Yale University, and is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Queen's University.

Dr. Yüksel was cited "for his contributions to the areas of information and control theory, and the interface between these." These contributions involve his studies in two main areas: control of systems under information constraints, and decentralized control.

The award consists of a cash prize and a commemorative plaque that will be presented at the CAIMS (Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Society) annual meeting in Quebec City in June 2013. Prof. Yüksel will deliver a plenary lecture at the meeting as part of the award ceremony.
