MUN Society Conference Draws Large Audience

The 2012 MUN Youth Gathering, organized by the Bilkent MUN (Model United Nations) Society, was held last Saturday, October 13. The conference, which started at 10:30 a.m. and lasted nearly five hours, brought to campus experts on current topics of national and international interest, and was attended by many Bilkenters.

At the conference, Kemal Ergün, president of the Mediation Committee, gave the first speech, on the subject of the "Code of Mediation" in Turkey. The second speaker, Emre Yalçın of the Central Bank of Turkey, shared his knowledge through a presentation entitled "China: Toward World Leadership." Last, Ayhan Yüzübenli of the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority discussed the question of whether or not Turkey needs a nuclear power station.

In addition to attending the formal presentations, audience members had the opportunity to interact with the speakers and ask questions during coffee breaks. At the end of the conference, approximately 200 Bilkent students received participation certificates. Bilkent MUN Society members stated that they hope to organize an even better and more comprehensive conference next year.
