The Bilkent Symphony Orchestra gave its second concert of the season last week on October 13 under the baton of Ion Marin.

Romanian-born conductor Marin's discography has already earned three Grammy nominations, the German Recording Prize and the Diapason Palme d´Or. He received the 2004 Alfred Schnittke Award for his extraordinary services to contemporary music. At last week's concert, he led the BSO in performances of Antonin Dvorak's Concerto for Violin in A minor (Op. 53) and Cesar Franck's Symphony in D minor.

For the Dvorak work, Maestro Marin and the BSO were joined by well-known violinist Guy Braunstein as soloist. Braunstein, whose career as a performer spans the solo, chamber and orchestral repertoires, was appointed concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at a very young age and has appeared at various music festivals worldwide.

The BSO's next concert, titled "Serenade," will be on October 19, with the orchestra conducted by artistic director Işın Metin in two serenades by Dvorak -- for Wind Instruments in D minor (Op. 44) and for Strings in E major (Op. 22) -- as well as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Serenade in C major (Op. 48).
