Bilkent Ranks High in New Index of Turkish Universities
According to the newly launched "Intercollegiate Entrepreneurship and Innovation Index" announced by Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Nihat Ergün last week, Bilkent University is one of the top Turkish universities in terms of entrepreneurship and innovation. Bilkent was listed third in the rankings; Sabancı University was first.
The new index lists the top 50 universities among the 126 universities eligible for inclusion. Universities are rated on the basis of five attributes: scientific and technological research capability; intellectual property rights portfolio; cooperation and interactivity; culture of entrepreneurship and innovation; and contribution to the economy and commercialization.
"Walking Books" Invade Bilkent Campus!
Just like last year, Bilkent has suddenly become home to a large number of "ownerless" books. This semester, 150 books have appeared on campus, courtesy of the Ayaklı Kitap Projesi (Walking Book Project). So, don't be surprised if you find an abandoned book on the bench where you're sitting, or in other random places around campus. The books have the Edebiyat Topluluğu logo on them. Feel free to take one of them with you to read. Then, once you're finished, just leave it wherever you want on campus. You'll also find the instructions on the first page of the book.
The Ayaklı Kitap Projesi has just gotten started for this year, and the Edebiyat Topluluğu would like to expand it with more books. So, if you have a few books that you'd like to see "walking" around campus, please consider donating them to the project. For more information/to donate books, you may contact:

Bilkent Team Comes In Second at Startup Weekend
A team of students from Bilkent took second place in the Startup Weekend event held at TOBB ETÜ's entrepreneurship institute October 5-7.
Startup Weekends have so far been held in over 70 countries worldwide, to encourage young entrepreneurs and help them learn how to develop business plans for startup companies. This was the first Startup Weekend to be held in Ankara. The event, which focused on bringing together mobile developers, was organized by Viveka Incubation Center in cooperation with Global Entrepreneurship-Turkey and sponsored by Google and Microsoft.
Participants in the inaugural Ankara Startup Weekend worked on their projects for 54 hours, turning their ideas into business plans, which were then evaluated by a jury. The Bilkent student team developed a mobile-based project named TouNat. The concept behind TouNat was to provide a system tourists can use to find local tour guides at reasonable rates.
Team Members: Alper Ekmekçi (EE/IV), Mehmet Ali Akyol (EE/IV), İsmail Sefa Nazlım (CS/IV), Onur Burç (CS/IV)
