Celebrate Turkish
Language Day

Turkish Language Day will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, this year. The day will be highlighted with a panel discussion entitled Turkish Language in the Information Age at 10:30 a.m. in the conference hall of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture building on the Main Campus.

Panelists include: Prof. Haluk Şükrü Akalın, a member of Türk Dil Kurumu (Turkish Language Association); Prof. Ağamusa Ahundov, the Director of Nesimi Language Institute at Azerbaijan Science Academy; Prof. Mehman Musaoğlu, also a member of the Nesimi Language Institute; and Dr. Rasim Özyürek, Director of Training Programs of Regional Countries at Bilkent University.

Assoc. Prof. Barshan
Receives TÜBİTAK Award

Prof. Billur BarshanAssociate Professor Billur Barshan of Bilkent's Department of Electrical Engineering has won the 1998 Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Young Investigator Award for her work on the development of novel sensing systems and sensor data fusion techniques for mobile robots.

Campus Food and Drink Pass Safety Tests

Tests conducted early this month confirm that food and drink served at all Bilkent eateries meet health safety standards. The September sampling was part of an ongoing series of tests to ensure that all cafeterias, cafes and restaurants on campus, including those at the preschool, elementary, and BUPS, maintain hygenic conditions.
