Econ Grad Student Selected to Attend Nobel Meeting

Burcu Afyonoğlu, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Economics, has been selected to attend to the 4th Annual Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Economic Sciences, which will take place at Lindau (Germany) in August 2011. In Lindau, about 350 young economists who belong to the budding scientific elite of their countries and who have passed a multi-stage international selection procedure will meet the Economics Laureates. Lectures by the Nobel Laureates and rounds of intimate discussions offer science discourse of the very highest standard. The events of the social program offer more opportunities for the exchange of experiences and opinions with Laureates and other young scientists.

Spring Fest 2011: May 5-6-7

Spring Fest is coming to campus to celebrate the end of the semester and welcome the summer holiday. From May 5 to May 7 activities will be held for students on the grass field between the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, Bilkent ODEON, and the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences. Each day, there will be parties, concerts, performances, exhibitions, movies, and other activities for you to enjoy.

Bilkent Hosts Hittite Civilization

Archaeology and its attempt to reconstruct and interpret daily life from many thousands of years ago may be often associated with a rather dull statistic evaluation of bones and potsherds. However, the Hittites, Anatolia's great civilization of the Late Bronze Age, intrigue many people with their marvelous monuments they left about 4000 years ago.

Last week, between April 26 and 28, the Bilkent University community had a chance to come to terms with its western Asian ancestors in a symposium and exhibition, jointly organized by the Archaeology department and Çorum Governorship. The symposium "Hittites at the University" featured Hittite food and drinks, Hittite art, Çorum handcrafts, and expert panels focused on cultural habits such as music, dancing, and diet. The symposium attracted many participants from Bilkent and numerous guests from other universities and companies.

Bilkent Wins Third Prize at the Turkey Microsoft Imagine Cup Finals

On Friday, April 22, the Bilkent University team BMEKS consisting of the students Erkin Demirtaş, Saltuk Buğra Karakuzu, Göktuğ Kaan Şengül, and Merve Timurlenk, supervised by Dr. Bedir Tekinerdoğan from the Computer Engineering Department, took third prize at the Turkey Microsoft Imagine Cup Finals in istanbul.

The Imagine Cup is the world's premier student technology competition and is being organized for the ninth time this year. The Imagine Cup competition spans one year, beginning with local contests in over 100 countries/regions. The finalists of each country go on to attend the worldwide finals held in a different country every year, this year being organized in New York. The Turkey finals are held each year at the Microsoft Office in İstanbul.
