Bilkent Teams Compete in Interuniversity Ice Hockey Tournament
The Bilkent men's and women's ice hockey teams participated in this year's national interuniversity championship tournament, held March 19-23 in Erzurum.
In the men's division, eight strong university teams (Ankara, Atatürk, Bilkent, Gazi, Hacettepe, İstanbul Technical and Koç) competed for the championship. The Bilkent men's team played well at the beginning of the tournament, defeating Hacettepe by a score of 29-1. However, the remaining matches proved much more challenging. The Bilkent squad ranked sixth in the tournament's final standings.
The Bilkent women's team, who were last year's champions, played all their matches head-to-head with other teams until the last day of the tournament. Due in large part to injuries, they lost their critical game against Hacettepe 4-1, and so ended up ranking third overall on the basis of goal averages. Nonetheless, there was a bright spot for the Bilkent women: Nilay Günay was chosen the best forward of the tournament.
