Conference on Computer Science Education

The 15th annual conference on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education (ITiCSE) was held in Bilkent, Ankara, Turkey on June 26-30, 2010, hosted by Bilkent University.  The conference, sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE), is held each year in a different European country. The conference is for students and academics interested in the use of technology in supporting computer science teaching and learning, the practice of teaching computer science, and computer science education research.

There were participants from 24 different countries. Attendees believe that ITiCSE 2010 has raised the bar for future ITiCSE conferences as well as strengthening the ITiCSE community connection.

The program included a welcoming address from Professor Ali Doğramacı, president and chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bilkent University, and three keynote presentations presented by Professor Nüket Yetiş, director of TÜBİTAK (the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), Professor Ekrem Özkul, executive board member of Turkish Council of Higher Education, and Dr. Jane Chu Prey, from Microsoft Research. The conference also included a history exhibition displaying posters of early computing magazine covers from Turkey, Greece, and Bulgaria together with a video of a much larger collection.

Cultural tours before, during, and after the conference added to the enrichment and enchantment of the event.

Evaluations indicated that ITiCSE 2010 was a most memorable conference, enhanced by Turkish warmth and hospitality. Visit http://www.iticse2010.bilkent.edu.tr for further details regarding ITiCSE 2010.
